Who is Elaine Thomson?
After graduating with a degree in fine art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2003, I continued to practice as a printmaker until 2009, when my focus shifted to running my own art gallery, Junction arts in Aberdeen. There, I supported contemporary UK-based artists and makers for 11 years.
In 2019, I made the huge decision to return to focusing on my own creativity, closing the premises but keeping the business name, creating work as Junction arts by Elaine Thomson from my home studio based in the North-East of Scotland. Now, in 2026, it's time to rebrand again, but this time to reflect who I am as an artist.

My Inspiration
My passion has always been drawing and printmaking. Working in an illustrative style and using bold colour, I hope to capture the essence of an everyday object or landscape by making simple linear drawings or using photographs to evoke an emotion or memory. Most recently, after moving home to the area where I grew up, I take inspiration from the wonderful surrounding countryside of Aberdeenshire and its ever-changing, dramatic light, colour, and beauty.
The images I capture are transformed into print, typically using silkscreen and risograph printing techniques. I'm also a competent picture framer and frame all of her own work, meaning from page to wall, every element is made by me.
